The village's name derives from the Arabic word "jameel," meaning "beautiful," which refers to the trees that thrive in the region year-round. As noted on Wikipedia, in the 1820s, George Barnes Brucks was assigned to conduct the first British survey of the Persian Gulf. He documented Al Jumail in his survey, referring to it as "Yamale."
