Itinerary

  • Goreme Open-Air Museum: We will begin at the Goreme Open Air Museum, an impressive collection of monasteries, churches and chapels that date back to the Middle Ages. The site served as an important Christian center of learning. Visitors can marvel at its religious buildings, which still exhibit elaborate and beautifully preserved frescoes.
  • Uchisar Castle: It is constructed on the highest point of the region. It has a totally dictinct castle form, including graves, tunnels and churches, that you cannot come across at any other place in the world.
  • Pasabag: We will then have time to explore the Monks Valley, famed for its three-headed fairy chimneys. This region of is also known as Pasabag, or “Pasha’s Vineyard,” for its stunning earth pillars located within a vineyard.
  • Avanos: Next destination is the small town of Avanos, home to a terracotta industry dating back to 3000 BC. Potters source clay from the Red River that winds through town. Tour visitors we will have the opportunity to visit a traditional pottery workshop and witness the excellent craftsmanship firsthand.
  • Devrent Valley: A short drive will take us to the surreal Devrent Valley, famed for its almost lunar landscape of small, pointed fairy chimneys. VIsitors will get a chance to explore the valley and take in its astounding formations.

Details

Pickup from your hotel around 09.30am.
The first stop is at Uçhisar Castle, the highest rock formation in the region. The guide will explain just how this amazing landscape came into existence.
At Göreme Open Air museum the guide will explain the importance of Christianity and monastic life in Cappadocia before leaving you free to explore the 10th and 11th century cave churches and monasteries with beautifully painted frescoes depicting famous biblical scenes
Enjoy a buffet-style lunch in Avanos, offering a wide range of Turkish food including mezes, salads, meat and vegetarian dishes and desserts.
Still in Avanos, visit an authentic family-run pottery workshop located in an underground cave.
Return to your hotel approx 16.00pm.
