The site is often likened to a book carved in stone. - Located 4km N.W of Nazereth in the lower Galilee & first mentioned during the Hasmonean era (167 B.C.E - 63 B.C.E.)
Has a rich & diverse historical & architectural legacy that includes Jewish, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Crusader & Ottoman influences.
Its most famous resident was Rabbi Judah Ha Nasi (redactor of the Mishna). - Ein Gev: Lunch

Details
The Lower Galilee region of Israel is just a one hour drive from the main cities including Tel Aviv, yet is worlds away. The least hilly region of Galilee, the Lower Galilee stretches from the Jezreel Valley (Valley of the Armageddon in Christianity) on the eastern slopes of Mount Carmel across to the Sea of Galilee. It includes Mount Tabor, BET SHEARIM, Megiddo, TZIPPORI and Mount Gilboa, the city of Nazareth, and amazing numbers of outdoor and leisure pursuits.
