Itinerary

  • Colosseum: You will meet with your guide at the Colosseum where pre-booked tickets will enable you to avoid queuing at the entrance and explore this masterpiece of Roman engineering immediately.
  • Roman Forum: After seeing inside the Colosseum, you will move to the Arch of Constantine and the Roman Forum nearby. The Forum served as a centre of commerce, politics and religion in Roman times. Dotted around the square are the ruins of the Arch of Titus, the House of the Vestal Virgins, the Temple of Saturn, the Senate House, and the marble Arch of Septimius Severus.
  • Complex of the Victorian Ala Brasini: You’ll then head down the Via Sacra (Sacred Way) to the Capitoline Hill and Il Vittoriano, an imposing neoclassical building and an icon of the city.

  • Trevi Fountain: A further stroll and you will arrive at the renowned Trevi Fountain. According to legend, if you throw a coin into the fountain you are destined to return to Rome one day.

You will then have some time for lunch (own expense). There is a wide selection of restaurants and other eateries to choose from, and your guide will be happy to recommend somewhere.

  • Column of Marcus Aurelius: After lunch you will enter the Government District, home to the Parliament Building, the Palace of the Council of Ministers and the Column of Marcus Aurelius. The ancient Temple of Hadrian stands nearby; a magnificent structure, built by the Emperor Antonius Pius to honour his predecessor.

  • Pantheon: A short walk down a narrow passageway will bring you to the Pantheon, the site of the great Renaissance Master Raphael’s tomb.
  • Piazza Navona: You’ll then pass by the remains of the Baths of Nero as you make your way to Piazza Navona where you’ll see Bernini’s breath-taking ‘Fountain of the Four Rivers’.
  • Vatican City: The last stop on the tour will be the Vatican City, just across the river Tiber.
  • Vatican Museums: Here you’ll see the Vatican Museums; a cornucopia of incredible artworks.
  • Sistine Chapel: You'll admire frescoes by Raphael, as well as Michelangelo’s epic ceiling in the Sistine Chapel.

READ CAREFULLY:

Because of the growing popularity of the current pope Francis and his intense activity in organising mass events in the Vatican some areas might get closed last minute without previous notice.
