Itinerary

  • Sebilj Brunnen (Fountain): There used to be hundreds of sebiljs (kiosk-shaped public fountains) in Sarajevo, but today the last one is found on Baščaršija Square, where it serves as a major symbol of the city. The location around Sebilj is also called "Pigeon Square" which serves as an amazing photo spot.
  • Kazandžiluk is one of Sarajevo’s oldest and most recognizable streets and it used to be part of the much larger Kazandžijska Čaršija, which took up the nearby streets, Luledžina and Oprkanj.

Kazandžiluk takes its name from the kazandžijas, master metalworkers and coppersmiths who first started producing kettles for the army and then later began making other copper vessels and items for everyday use (ewers, pitchers, coffee pots, metal table tops, trays). At the height of Ottoman Sarajevo’s “Golden Age”, coppersmiths were producing around a hundred different kinds of items.
  • The most representative building from the Austro-Hungarian period was completed in 1896. A famous example of Neo-Moorish architecture is inspired by Islamic art in Spain and North Africa.
  • Latin Bridge: A place that changed the world is located right next to the famous Latin Bridge. Learn about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Sophie.
  • Gazi-Husrev Beg's Bezistan: Gazi Husrev Bey’s Bezistan (covered bazaar), also called Old Bezistan and Great Bezistan is part of Gazi Husrev Bey’s vakuf (endowment). It is presumed that the structure was built around 1540.
  • Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque: Built in the 16th century, it is the largest historical mosque in Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the most representative Ottoman structures in the Balkans. Being the central Sarajevo's mosque since the days of its construction, today it also serves as the main congregational mosque of the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Katedrala Srca Isusova: Josip Vancaš, a Hungarian architect, took his inspiration for the design of Sarajevo’s cathedral from the Notre Dame Cathedral in Dijon, France and St. Teyn Cathedral in Prague.

Thanks to Vancaš’ great talent, Sarajevo’s cathedral ended up becoming an entirely new and authentic building, and also fits in beautifully with its surroundings, with Gazi Husrev Bey’s Hamam (Turkish bath) in the background.
  • Sarajevo Meeting of Culture: Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures is where East meets West and a location from which we can truly see the uniqueness of Sarajevo by taking two completely different photos from the same spot.
